Every Country Singer
If Christ were a country singer today, what things do you think he would favor?  His music would be superlative.  His life would be the personification of love given equally to the deserving and the undeserving.  He’d be the model for ‘Christian charity’ and support helping needy people.  He would give you food even if you asked with a burning cigarette in your fingers.  Racism and prejudice would be bad things.  He would help you without the least regard for your race or religion.  He would sing his songs to any audience, for all people, are created equal, and O.K.  He would urge you to care for one another, for every one is important.  He might encourage you to say “There with the grace of God AM I, helping,” instead of, “There but for the grace of God go I.”
He’d know the neighbors and their friends and families, and engage them in the music of His way.  He would really listen to them, granting their inalienable dignity, as they shared their stories.  His songs would recognize their lives, and the things that make them happy or make them sad—because each person, each soul, has something to offer to humankind.  He would know that their contributions are often given through their churches—denominations of ALL kinds.  He would love, not hate, and leave the judging to God.
Around here, we think every country singer should sing that song in his or her heart.  And most of them do.
